Morning by Morning Coffee

A 1958 Phillips 66 service station complete with four gas pumps and two service bays was remodeled for this business. When Wordna Gray bought this property in 1958 to build his station, a lovely two-story home located on the property had to be torn down. This home was known as the Woodard House, built in 1906 by Judge I. T. Woodard. The last residents were Aunt Bet and her stepdaughter, Miss Ann, who ran one of the two hat shops on Carroll Street. Aunt Bet owned an old Model T that would pull out of the garage onto Evergreen and “cadillac” on down Main Street with its driver, Paul Middlebrooks, Sr.
