New Hope Baptist Church was originally located at 1014 W. F. Ragin Drive. It was organized between 1861 and 1864 under the leadership of Rev. J. R. Wilburn. One and one-half acres were purchased in December 1868 from Solomon Jackson for $40 and a wooden structure was built for worship. Between 1911 and 1915 a brick church building replaced the wooden church building. In April, 1983 Rev. Dennis Harden was called as pastor, and the church made major renovations under his leadership. By 1988 the church had 313 members. The church became incorporated as a nonprofit organization and is tax-exempt under IRS Section 501 (c)(3). In 2007 the church broke ground for a new sanctuary at 1300 Washington Street and construction began on the new church soon after.
